Creation of project logo
 
The Twinning Team and our short-term expert enhanced and facilitated a discussion process related to the development of a logo for this Twinning project. There was an internal debate and exchange with various designers. Based on these discussions and to the joint effort and creative process of the team, the Twinning team agreed on our new logo (left)

 

Results of last mission in the field of hazardous waste management

Work on hazardous waste management continued in April. It was led by two waste management experts, Brigitte Karigl of Austria and Ellen Gerlach of Germany. This mission came after two previous missions, during which a gap analysis was drafted and work began on a hazardous waste classification manual.

Preparation of one Mission to revised TA Luft and implementation of BREF documents with two German experts

Germany‘s process of amending its air pollution control regulation, known as Technical Instructions on Air Quality Control, or TA Luft, is in full swing. The Twinning team is organising a mission with two experts from the German Environmental Agency who are responsible for the implementation of the new TA Luft in Germany.  Read more
On April 18th, 2016, the Twinning project successfully organized its first stakeholder workshop.

The topic was resource and energy efficiency. A large audience came to listen and discuss. Representatives of all 3 project countries – Germany, Austria and UK – were present as either speakers or participating audience. A detailed report will be published in our next newsletter.

Looking back


January

  • Double mission on hazardous waste and soil protection, with 2 experts from Austria, focusing on: interfaces of both regulatory systems, waste classification according to EU waste catalog, mirror entries, threshold from EU member states, possible adaptation in Israel, preparation of a waste manual. Mission included a site visit to a transfer station.
  • Mission on continuous stack monitoring with 2 experts from Germany, focusing on: preparation of a manual, implementation of gap analysis, round table discussions about Israeli data management, preparation of presentation of German classification scheme.
  • Mission on waste management with 2 UK experts, including workshop and site visit.

February

  • Mission on energy efficiency with 1 German expert. Included manual preparation
  • Mission on wastewater stream inventory with 2 German experts, including roundtable discussion with different regulators (Ministry of Health, Water Authority) and site visit
  • Mission on waste management with 2 UK experts, including workshop and site visit
  • Ad hoc mission aimed at getting legal advice on the Israeli Green Licensing Law with one German expert, including a discussion at the Knesset.

March

  • Mission on wastewater end-of-pipe treatment with 2 German experts, discussion with different regulators (Ministry of Health, Water Authority), site visit
  • Double mission on resource efficiency (material use) and energy efficiency with 2 German experts and 1 from UK: preparation of manuals and preparation of stakeholder workshop in April
  • Visibility mission: creation of project logo, preparation of program and invitation for stakeholder workshop and visibility
  • Mission on hazardous substances with 2 German experts, including round table discussions with IDF Home Front and Fire Brigade, site visit to hazardous substance storage site
  • Mission on waste management with 2 UK experts, including workshop and site visit
  • Steering Committee meeting

April

  • Double mission on hazardous waste and waste management, with 2 experts from UK, 1 expert from Austria and 1 expert from Germany, focusing on: interfaces of both regulatory systems, treatment plants, classification of treatment plants and of waste;
  • Mission on VOC emissions from plastics installation with 2 German experts, including: manual preparation, round table discussion, site visits;
    Stakeholder workshop: Cutting Costs by Resource Efficiency & Energy Management, Increasing Competitiveness and Environmental Performance by Efficient Material and Energy Use. Presentations by: 6 German experts (2 from the private sector), representative of the EU Delegation to Israel, MoEP, environmental NGOs, Israeli industry.
  • Mission on Environmental Management system with expert from Austria.

 Achieved Results

  • Benchmarks (site visit reports, recommendations, high-level ad hoc advice, minutes of workshop) ;
  • Work on manual

May

  • Mission on continuous stack monitoring with 2 experts from Germany: completion of manual, round table discussion, site visit - Mission on waste management with 2 UK experts, including workshop and site visit.
  • Mission on hazardous substances with 2 German experts.
  • Mission on LCP (large combustion plants) with 2 German experts.



June

  • Study visit to Austria. Delegation to include: Israeli MoEP professionals, environmental NGOs, industry
  • Mission on soil protection with 2 German experts
  • Double mission on Germany’s revised TA Luft (Technical Instructions on Air Quality Control) and BREF process, with 2 high-level German experts
  • Double mission on hazardous substances and waste management with 2 German and 2 UK experts.
